Equestrian Collections has smooth ride to new fully-integrated ERP system

"With Everest, we now have the ability to compete as equals with our two largest competitors. In fact, we have been chosen as one of the primary 'link-to's' on our industry's upcoming shopping comparison site, linking top equestrian brands to retailers".

Chris Duggan, president,
Equestrian Collections.

  Company Background

Equestrian Collections is committed to offering its customers a selection of equestrian apparel and equipment from the top manufacturers around the world.

As such, its Website includes all major brands so that patrons have the widest selection of products at the best prices. The site is always open for business, and with an average transaction time of less than 15 minutes, it leaves more time for riding. Equestrian Collections uses Everest Software.

  The Challenge
With 'doors' that are open round-the-clock to shoppers, Equestrian Collections prides itself on providing a retail experience to its online customers that is innovative, quick and easy. When the company decided to migrate its existing Web business run on multiple platforms and applications onto a fully integrated system run on one Microsoft SQL Server platform - while at the same time adding customizations - it needed to be able to keep the business functional on the back-end and seamless on its customer-facing Web storefront.

"We know that our customers love the outdoors and riding, so we wanted to make their online shopping experience fast and simple, so they could have more time to do what they enjoy most," said Chris Duggan, president, Equestrian Collections. "It was critical that we had zero down-time while we migrated to a new system."

In addition to migrating data for its 32,000 Web pages, the company needed a system that would allow it to include historical transactions, upload more than 72,000 product SKUs, and maintain its Google rankings during the transition.

Given these significant IT challenges, its new enterprise software package needed to encompass all of its requirements, while also providing an open architecture to build out the customizations.
The Solution

To address these needs, Equestrian Collections turned to Everest Software to help the company migrate to a single platform. "When choosing a solution, it was important that this was the beginning of a long-term partnership, and not just a standalone purchase of a box off-the-shelf," said Duggan. "We made two visits to Everest's offices and collaborated with them throughout the implementation process."

With the back-end, open architecture of Everest's cost-effective, all-in-one solution, Everest Advanced, Equestrian Collections was able to easily import its legacy e-commerce site product information directly into the new system.

By having access to the source code, and unfiltered access to the core database through Microsoft SQL to create new procedures, business logic, and solutions, Everest Advanced allowed Equestrian Collections to rapidly migrate its legacy site, which included the 32,000 pages in Google, to the new e-commerce engine, as well as have systems and solutions that rapidly manage the product management of matrices. Furthermore, the company is now able to have feeds out to various marketing channels for a single point-of-click advertising management.

"Everest Advanced also gives us the ability to submit data feeds to major shopping comparison sites," said Duggan. "We did not have this option with our former, non-integrated system."

In addition, Everest Advanced allows Equestrian Collections to do regular product availability look-ups with its major inventory vendors which, according to Duggan "is vital to our business model and was impossible before implementation of the Everest system."

"With Everest, we now have the ability to compete as equals with our two largest competitors," added Duggan. "In fact, we have been chosen as one of the primary 'link-to's' on our industry's upcoming shopping comparison site, linking top equestrian brands to retailers."
