John Burton
Managing General Partner, Updata Venture Partners
John Burton is a Managing General Partner of Updata Venture Partners. John is also a Managing Director of Updata Capital. John joined the Updata organization in 1997 from the Burton Technology Group, an IT investment and advisory firm.
During that time, John also served as Chairman of Banyan Worldwide, where he was instrumental in successfully repositioning the company. Prior to starting the Burton Technology Group, he was Chief Executive Officer of Legent Corporation, a provider of systems software and services. John joined Legent after the company acquired Business Software Technology (BST), a start-up that he co-founded. John is currently a director of Ecutel, MainControl, OTG Software, ePresence and SwapDrive.
Tim Guleri
General Partner, Sierra Ventures
Tim has been a General Partner of Sierra Ventures since 2001. Previously, Tim co-founded Octane Software and served as its CEO until its acquisition by E.piphany, Inc. Tim then served as Vice Chairman & Executive Vice President at E.piphany. Tim previously held the position of Vice President of Technical Field Operations and Product Marketing at Scopus Technology and he ran Information Technology at LSI Logic.
Tim is a director of private and acquired companies, including Motiva (acquired by Siebel Systems), Net6, Octane Software (acquired by E.piphany), Sourcefire, Ventaso, and Spoke Software.
Tim is an alumnus of Punjab Engineering College, India, with a Masters in Robotics and Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Andrew Jones
General Partner, Boulder Ventures
Andy has more than 18 years of technology industry experience emphasizing software and communications. Prior to joining Boulder Ventures in 1998, Andy worked at Grotech Capital Group. At Grotech, Mr. Jones was responsible for sourcing, due diligence and deal structuring of early-stage information technology investment opportunities.
Prior to joining Grotech, Mr. Jones was with the Deloitte Consulting and Andersen Consulting. Mr. Jones began his career at Motorola, where he was an engineer in both the Applied Research and Cellular Infrastructure groups.
Andy holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, as well as an MSEE and a BSEE, both from Cornell University.
Edwin Miller
President and Chief Executive Officer, Everest Software
Edwin brings to Everest extensive executive-level experience operating and building technology companies. Previously, Edwin served as President and CEO of Infodata Systems. Prior to joining Infodata, Edwin served as president and CEO of Ikimbo as well as president and COO of XML Solutions after beginning his career in sales and marketing at PSINet. Mr. Miller is a frequent speaker on technology and management topics and he was recognized as a "Top 12 CEO to Watch" by the Washington Business Journal in 2003.
Edwin earned a BS degree in management and linguistics from Liberty University and an MBA from the George Washington University.
Jay Meriwether
Managing Director, Edgewood Advisors LLC
Jay is the Managing Director of Edgewood Advisors LLC, which provides business advisory services to organizations. Previously he managed units of large consulting and audit firms and worked extensively with organizations in the financial services, technology, communications, government contracting, association and non-profit industries.
In 2007 and 2008, Jay helped launch a retained search division for Robert Half International, Inc. and led teams in securing and executing search engagements. Additionally, he had oversight of the development of policies, processes and infrastructure for this new division. Jay has conducted financial audits, including audits of companies preparing for mergers, acquisitions, initial public offerings, debt issuances and equity sales.
Jay served as a member of an advisory board of directors for a privately owned company which provides technology services to the Federal government. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Synatech Holdings, Inc., which is owned by The Carlyle Group, and Everest Software. He is chairman of Synatech’s audit committee. Jay graduated from Washington & Lee University and is a CPA.
Ali Jani
Chief Technology Officer, Everest Software
Ali is a co-founder of Everest Software, Inc. (formerly iCode) and is responsible for the roadmap and design of all products. With more than 15 years experience in software engineering and development, Ali has successfully developed, marketed and installed several commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions. Prior to Everest Software, Inc., Ali was one of the co-founders of Accel Inc., playing an instrumental role in the rapid growth and sale of the $35 million company. In addition to his role at Everest Software, Ali pioneered the development of digital video interactive (DVI) based applications built on Intel's DVI program.
Ali graduated from Virginia Tech with two Bachelors degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
