Everest Software Background
Everest Software was founded by three entrepreneurs who had met at Virginia Polytechnic University (a.k.a. Virginia Tech) and who were running a computer retailing company in the Washington, DC area. They had been unable to find a software program to effectively manage their business so being technically inclined, they wrote a software application for their own internal purposes to better manage their business. Following the successful sale of their hardware company in 1994, they directed their efforts towards commercializing this software application for sale to other small businesses. The founders initially established a small operation in the U.S. and soon thereafter, opened an office in India in 1996 to tap into the vast pool of talent and to leverage operational efficiencies. In this regard, Everest Software was ahead of the offshoring curve that was later followed by many other U.S. software companies.
Product Evolution
The company’s first product ultimately came to be known as Accware. As it turns out, Accware filled a need that many small businesses had for an integrated software application to make their businesses more efficient and profitable. The company continued to develop additional functionality and modules for Accware and later, added a professional-looking e-commerce/shopping cart front end that was integrated with the back office application. It was in the late 1990s that the company’s founders had a vision of a similar but more powerful and scalable version of Accware that would be the company’s “next generation product.” This product was built from the ground up on a SQL platform. When this massive product was complete, it was launched under the name Everest Enterprise and is now known simply as Everest. Over the years, Everest Software’s products have earned praise from influential software magazines and have won various awards such as the prestigious “Codie” award later for Best Business Software Product or Service in 2004.
Venture Backed and Professionally Managed
In order to grow the business over the past few years, Everest Software has obtained financing from elite venture capital firms. We now have outside board members which include former CEOs of leading software companies. Our board currently includes Tim Guleri and Mark Fernandes of Sierra Ventures (an early investor in Intuit, one of Everest Software’s competitors) and John Burton of Updata Venture Partners.
Everest Software also has a deep management team with a vast amount of experience in the software industry. Edwin Miller, President and CEO, joined the company in 2006 and brings to Everest Software a long track record of building successful software companies.
Two Locations – One Company
Everest Software’s two primary offices have extensive experience working together and Everest Software India has played such a crucial role in the company’s growth and success that the two offices really operate as one. Unlike many U.S. companies that are newer entrants into the India market, Everest Software’s Bangalore office is part of the company’s DNA. Staffs in both offices work together in a near seamless manner through the use of state of the art videoconferencing equipment as well as by phone and email. Bi-continental teams tackle challenges and enjoy successes together as integrated units.
Commitment to India
Everest Software’s commitment to India is unquestionably clear. In June 2005, the company moved into a new state-of-the-art building in Bangalore with a long-term lease. Our new facility is in a new tech park and offers various amenities.
